In light of Mr. Weinstein’s widely reported behaviour — with new reports continuing to surface even now — the Producers Guild’s National Board has voted unanimously to enact a lifetime ban on Mr. Weinstein, permanently barring him from PGA membership.
This unprecedented step is a reflection of the seriousness with which the Guild regards the numerous reports of Mr. Weinstein’s decades of reprehensible conduct.
According to the PGA constitution, members are given 15 days notice before any action is taken. Weinstein had the chance to respond before the board made its final decision on Nov. 6.
But rather than addressing the Guild’s charges, Weinstein elected to resign his membership in the Producers Guild. So now, he's banned for life.
"Sexual harassment can no longer be tolerated in our industry or within the ranks of the Producers Guild membership," the statement read.
The Producers Guild is a non-profit trade organization with 8,100 members that represents the interests of film and television producers. It's well-known for its prestigious Producers Guild Awards, particularly the Milestone Award, which Weinstein and his brother, Bob, have both received.
The ban comes just days after yet another actress, Natassia Malthe, came forward to accuse Weinstein of rape. On Monday, Italian actress Asia Argento released a list of 93 women, including herself, who have accused Weinstein of sexual assault.
