There may be overwhelmed by eroticism tumblerno Friends reunion in sight for the present, but the characters of NBC's beloved breakout comedy will reunite on stage for a musical parody.
The team behind parody musicals based on Full House and Keeping up with the Kardashians has its eyes set on those kooky, coffee-drinking twenty-somethings who were always there for each other.
SEE ALSO: That's so fetch: The 'Mean Girls' musical is coming“It only makes sense to set our sights on the hit TV show Friendsafter creating parody musicals about Saved by the Bell, Full House, and Beverley Hills, 90210," co-writer Tobly McSmith told Entertainment Weekly. "Not only do we poke fun and celebrate the show, we also get some jokes in about the actor’s lives.”
McSmith's other off-Broadway parodies do the same, equally mocking and admiring their source material. Parts of Friendshaven't aged as well as others since the '90s, so the timing is perfect.
A few tongue-in-cheek song titles reference the show's major jokes, plot lines, and character arcs, including Monica's gorgeous apartment, the ugly naked guy, and the cast's insane paychecks toward the series' later seasons.
Here's a few of those song titles:
“The Only Coffee Shop in New York City”“45 Grove Street — How Can We Afford This Place?”“How You Doing, Ladies?” — Joey“Hey Ugly Naked Guy Who Lives Across the Street!”“We Were On a Break!”“I’m Gonna Hump U” — Marcel“Oh. My. God. It’s Janice!” — Janice“Will They or Won’t They” — Ross and Rachel“The Ballad of Fat Monica”“Could I BE Anymore…..in Love with Monica” — Chandler“The One Where We Make a Million Dollars An Episode”“We’ll Always Be There For You”
No word yet on if it will include the only musical Joey Tribbiani ever performed in:
The Friendsmusical will open in fall 2017. Tickets go on sale in June.
