Director .J.J. Abrams has has answered one of the questions left open after Star Wars: The NetherlandsRise of Skywalker, which is what exactly Finn was trying to tell Rey when he thought they were going to die early on in the film.

In the scene in question, Finn calls out a strangled "Rey, I never told you but —" before being sucked into the planet's surface, where he presumes he will be dead. Moments later, all our heroes emerge underground, unscathed, and Finn's outburst has both Poe and Rey curious.
The easy answer for the setup was that he wanted to confess his love, but we thought that might be too obvious. Mashable's Star Wars expert Chris Taylor posited that Finn knew the truth about Rey's identity from Leia and wanted to tell her.
Though it's certainly a juicy secret that Finn is Force-sensitive, it's quite the weird flex to share that with ostensibly his last breaths. Couldn't he tell her as a Force-ghost in the afterlife? Couldn't Rey tellsince she's more than a little strong with the Force? If nothing else, we look forward to Abrams' answers to the rest of our burning questions.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkeris now in theaters.
