"I only know one truth: it's time for the Jedi to end."
That mic drop of a Luke Skywalker line from theLast Jediteaser trailer reverberated around the world Friday, asian sex diary videos with most fans assuming it meant Luke wanted to destroy the Force-filled order to which he had devoted his life.
But in France, at least, Star Wars fans heard something different.
CARD ID: 197558
As pointed out by the website Le Point Pop, the dubbed trailer ends with the line "le temps est venu pour les Jedi d'en finir," which translates to "the time has come for the Jedi to put an end to it."
According to French journalists, Disney France is aware of the difference in meaning -- but decided to keep it that way regardless.
Which means Luke could be referring to something the Jedi Order has done in the past that it shouldn't do again. Given what we saw of the Jedi in the prequel movies -- haughty, arrogant, unaware of the Sith conspiracy to kill them all until it was too late -- that's a pretty long list.
Then again, we've already seen problems in translation with The Last Jedi-- or as it's known in France, Les Derniers Jedi.
That refers to multipleJedi -- Luke and his new trainee Rey, perhaps. (The plural of "Jedi" is also "Jedi.")But last week, director Rian Johnson said that he always thought of the title as singular "in my mind," referring to Luke alone.
But that doesn't mean Lucasfilm intended the title of its movie that way. A Lucasfilm source told us to "trust your doubt" on the singular/plural Last Jediquestion when the title was announced earlier this year. And it was translated as plural in multiple European countries, not just France.
In the strange case of the teaser trailer, however, the Spanish and Portuguese versions both translate "it's time for the Jedi to end" to sound the same as it does in English.
So either France is ahead of the rest of the world in understanding Luke Skywalker's true intentions, or the French trailer is misleading millions.
Either way, we'll find out for sure when The Last Jedihits theaters around the globe on December 15.
