If you wondered just how big a battery will Tesla pack into its upcoming Model 3 electric car,Eng Sub we've got some bad news for you: It won't have a 100 kWh capacity like some Model S and Model X models.
Elon Musk confirmed that in a reply on Twitter on Tuesday, explaining that the Model 3's wheelbase just can't fit such a big battery.

Musk did not say exactly how big a battery the Model 3 will have. The Model S is available with either a 60, 75, 90 or a 100 kWh battery, so it's likely the Model 3 with come with one of the lower three options. In the car's initial announcement in March 2016, Tesla said the car will have a minimum 215-mile range.
Musk was quite talkative yesterday, so he answered a few other questions on Twitter. Besides announcing that the Model 3 might come to India this summer, he also said the Model X and S won't have a battery bigger than 100 kWh (although the company's planned semi and pickup truck may go above that capacity).
@Veidit No plans to take X, S (or 3) above 100 kWh. Semi necessarily and pickup truck maybe will go above.

Finally, Musk had a couple of tips for speed freaks who want to improve the already impressive acceleration figures of their Model S. If you take out its floor mats, Musk said, the P100D version can go from 0 to 60mph in 2.27 seconds. Also, the car (all electric cars, in fact) performs better at altitude than on sea level.
@jovanik21 Take out the floor mats and its 2.27. MT said everything had to be standard production.

@mdcdave yes, altitude improves performance for electric. Opposite of combustion cars.

Tesla Model 3 is slated to start arriving in buyers' garages in the second half of 2017. Hopefully we'll know more about the car's technical details well before then.
