When it comes time to protest,Anticipation Britons respond in the most colourful and creative ways.

Thousands of people descended on the streets of UK cities from Edinburgh to London to protest against the controversial travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

As a petition calling for Prime Minister Theresa May to block Trump's planned state visit to the UK gathers more than 1.6 million signatures, demonstrators held signs and placards that showed off their irreducible regional genius.

The demonstration in London, organised by columnist Owen Jones, took place outside 10 Downing Street. Protests also took place in Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Newcastle, Sheffield, Oxford, Cambridge, Brighton, Gloucester, Leeds, York, Liverpool, Leicester and several other towns and cities.

Translation: "Very angry about Trump."

Translation: "I'm going to miss Pobol y Cwm (Welsh soap opera) tonight".

Edinburgh -- "Your maw was an immigrant you absolute roaster"

Translation: "Your mother was an immigrant you absolute cunt/twat."

Glasgow -- "Chapati tae yer heid ya bam"

Translation: "Chapati to your head you 'bampot' (crackpot, nitwit, unhinged, incompetent/inept individual."

Edinburgh -- "Yer maw was an immigrant ya fucken bawbag"

Translation: "Your mother was an immigrant, you fucking 'scrotum' (Glaswegian term for annoying, irritating person)"
