Engineer Josh Wardle originally created Wordleas a gift for his partner and the word guessing game quickly spread around the world. Now thousands of players across the globe play Wordleeach day, and it was purchased by the New York Timesearlier this year for a very pretty penny.
Fans have also created numerous clones and riffs on Wordle, such as the battle royale format Squabble, music identification game Heardle, and variations like Dordleand Quordlethat have you trying to guess multiple words at once. Wordlehas also become unexpected content for livestreamers, with TikTok creators broadcasting themselves playing.

We all have those days where one Wordlejust isn't enough. If you want more or feel like a bit of practice time, the entire archive of past puzzles is available for you to play whenever you want.
Wordleisn't getting any harder, despite how it might feel on certain days! However, Wordledoes have a Hard Mode you can turn on if you're craving more of a challenge.
Occasionally the Wordlegods will accept two different answers on a single day, defying the accepted norm of one correct solution per day. This anomaly is due to changes the New York Timesmade to Wordleafter it acquired the puzzle game earlier this year.

The solution to Wordle #312 is...
SHOWN.
This feels like an unusual one, because Wordle's word list tends to stick to words in their original form rather than past tense or plural derivativations — otherwise half the answers could be four-letter words with an S tacked onto the end, right? A quick skim through the first few months of the original list turns up just one past-tense word: WROTE. It's not a hard and fast rule, clearly, but it's worth keeping in mind as you guess away each day.
Don't be sad if you didn't get it this time — we still have many more Wordlepuzzles ahead of us. Come back tomorrow for more helpful clues and hints!
