People may not80p Archivesusing Facebook Stories, but that isn't stopping the social network from expanding the feature to its next platform.

Facebook is now testing a version of Stories for desktop, with a wider launch coming "soon," according to a company spokesperson.

The current tests are only showing up for a small segment of Facebook users around the world but will eventually roll out more widely. The desktop version of the feature allows people to view friends' Stories from their browsers (creation is still limited to Facebook's app for now).

It's not clear why Facebook wants to expand the feature in the first place. Despite the overwhelming success of Stories on Instagram and WhatsApp, the feature has been all but ignored inside of Facebook's main app.

The social network is likely hoping a desktop expansion will help change that. By making the feature available in browsers, it could boost engagement by putting it in front of a new set of users who aren't typically exposed to the feature.

Not that it will make much of a difference. As we've pointed out before, hardly anyone uses the feature as Facebook's Stories obsession is getting old fast.
