For those who insist that the friend zone is real, here's a lesson for you via the Twitterverse.

A Twitter user named Mia Violet tweeted snapshots of a Twitter exchange she spotted that was all about the friend zone, and -- as she so eloquently put it -- it "escalated in an unexpectedly awesome direction."

A Twitter user named Jiraiya tweeted pictures of pairs of cartoon and anime characters. In his opinion, all the male characters were being friend zoned.

Jiraiya probably didn't expect David Slack -- the writer who created the Teen Titans characters, Beast Boy and Terra -- to comment on this tweet.

Slack was none too pleased with Jiraiya's interpretation of the characters' friendship and schooled him on the basics of autonomy and genuine friendship.
