With a blindfold wrapped securely around his head,Watch Up To And Including Her Limits Online a speedrunner completed Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Pastusing nothing but his ears and unbelievable memory to navigate the world -- and it only took him 9 hours and 5 minutes.
Link to the PastSpeedrunner ParisianPlayer managed to complete the classic SNES game Saturday, Kotakureported, without using his eyes in a unique all-bosses, all-glitches blindfolded speedrun. He used path memorization along with audio cues from the environment and hitting objects to beat the game without too many hiccups.
SEE ALSO: A look back at 5 of the best moments from Games Done Quick speedrunsParisianPlayer's mastery ofLink to the Pastcomes from his years of experience speedrunning the game. He is currently ranked 49th in the world for the game's any percent speedrun (less than 7 minutes behind first place time of 1:23:19) and seventh in the world for the low percent run (about 10 minutes behind the first place time of 1:25:27).
There are several parts of the run where ParisianPlayer doesn't exactly know where he is or where he's supposed to go, but he always manages to get back on track.
For some portion of the game, like most of the boss fights, he can only run around and swing his sword, hoping that he'll kill his enemy before it kills him. There are tactics to boss fights, but for the most put it's up to luck.
ParisianPlayer used glitches to move around the world quickly and easily, including an out of bounds glitch known as the "go anywhere glitch."
If you jump off a ledge and save/quit the game while you're in mid-air, then load that save and get hit by an enemy, Link will teleport under the world and be able to walk into different areas without worrying about any obstacles.
After 9 hours, 5 minutes and 11 seconds, ParisianPlayer was able to pull off his blindfold and revel in his achievement, undoubtedly excited that he crushed his 12-hour estimate by nearly 3 hours.
He was also probably relieved that he could stand up, eat some food and go to the bathroom. That's right, he stayed right where he started for the entire run. No breaks.
Blindfolded speedruns are nothing new in the speedrunning world. Players have beaten Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timeand Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!in a similar fashion. For Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Pastthough, this was a pretty unique accomplishment.
