UPDATE: May 24983 Archives 2018, 5:01 p.m. EDT On May 24, CNN published a report detailing multiple allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct against Morgan Freeman. In light of this reporting, Translink has put a pause the voice announcements from Freeman, according to Vancouver Sun.
Freeman issued the following statement in light of the allegations:
Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy. I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected — that was never my intent.
Our original story appears below.
If you've always wanted the voice of God to spice up your daily commute, you're in luck.
Morgan Freeman might not actually beGod, but he's the closest mouthpiece we've got. Freeman has a new gig as a the voice of Vancouver, Canada's TransLink.
According to the Vancouver Sun, this summer residents using the SkyTrain will hear Freeman's voice at certain stations, encouraging riders to engage with the system's "tap-to-pay policy." Messages like "Good news, Vancouver. Starting today, you can now tap your Visa to go anywhere TransLink takes you,” will greet passengers, as well as other etiquette related messages around smoking and keeping your feet off the seats.
Here's a sample, thanks to the Sun:
The partnership might seem like a surprise, but Freeman has long been a spokesperson for Visa, which is one of the only credit cards accepted by TransLink, along with Mastercard. TransLink spokesman Chris Bryan confirmed to the Sun that the use of Freeman's voice was part of an ad campaign for Visa.
The news that Freeman will be accompanying commuters was exciting to a lot of folks who hopped on Twitter to share the good news.
